Alpla UK’s multimillion-pound expansion is now complete

The expansion of global packaging and recycling specialist, Alpla’s, Warrington UK manufacturing facility in Golborne, is now complete.

The multimillion scheme, designed by Pozzoni and delivered by Caddick Construction, covered a series of phases, including a bridge link over the highway to connect Alpla’s existing production facility with the adjacent former Carlsberg unit (GB4) which the company acquired in 2019 as its new logistics hub. This latest phase saw the substantial expansion of the hub with the construction of a warehouse extension, along with associated external works.

Ben Edwards, contracts manager at Caddick Construction, said: “We have worked with Alpla over the last couple of years connecting the company’s two bases and expanding its logistics facility.

“The development has future-proofed Alpla’s expansion in response to increased demand for its products. It has also delivered business efficiencies, enabling products to be safely conveyed between Alpla’s manufacturing and storage facility without the need to physically transport between the buildings.”

Alpla produces innovative packaging systems, bottles and moulded parts for a wide range of clients, including packaging for hand sanitisers and cleaning sprays. The company is headquartered in Austria and employs more than 20,000 staff worldwide. Alpla also occupies a number of manufacturing and distribution facilities at Stone Cross Business Park in Warrington, close to junction 23 of the M6.

Matt Mason, senior associate at Pozzoni Architecture, commented: "Close coordination with Alpla's process engineers ensured that the towers and bridge link are fully compatible with the automated dual lane conveyor system and the end-result is an efficient yet striking design, particularly with the blue and white 'fins' illuminated on the link bridge at night."
