The leisure sector - going from strength to strength

15 March 2023

From our first leisure project completed back in 2000, to our new civic hub building in Radcliffe which has recently been submitted for planning, the last 23 years of swimming pool design has seen the practice’s leisure experience grow from strength to strength.

Our leisure team began with small (and then larger) refurbishment projects for Serco and DC Leisure. Shortly afterwards, we won the opportunity to build our first new build leisure centres at Harpurhey in Manchester, and Alfreton in Derbyshire. Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide range of prominent projects in the UK, Europe and India, with fabulous clients, amassing a portfolio of projects we’re all very proud of.

Notable commissions over the years include working with Sport England to develop design guidance, designing and building two Sport England exemplar projects (Godalming and Tameside Wellness Centres) and the refurbishment of four National Sports Centres. More recently, our work has included the refurbishment of the Manchester Aquatics Centre, designing a visitor centre and hotel in Snowdonia for one of the world’s only inland surfing lagoons, along with numerous refurbishment projects working with some of the leading leisure and fitness operators.

The practice has also helped to advance the design and implementation of a new wave of Lifestyle Centres, combining leisure facilities with other public sector uses such as libraries, primary healthcare and social care.

Pozzoni has grown and developed with every project to become one of the leading leisure sector architectural practices in the country, something we’re very proud to have achieved through working collaboratively with our clients and end users.
